Highlights from 100 Years
1920s
During the Roaring 20s, gasoline was 20 cents per gallon, a loaf of bread was 9 cents, a family of four could see a movie for less than $1, and a Ford Model T cost $260.
We built the “old bank building” on Fifth and Donnelly and received our charter as a national bank.
1920s
The Great Depression hit America, and more than 9,000 banks failed across the country. Our doors remained open to serve customers.

America was pulled into World War II and the beginning of the Cold War. Marvel Comics introduced Captain America and department stores began selling Tupperware®.

The 50s brought the first color television programming, the Peanuts comic strips, TV dinners, and hula hoops.
Bank records were hand-written in ledgers rather than computerized.

The biggest fads during the 60s included afros, Barbie Dolls, bell-bottoms, lava lamps, miniskirts, and Tie Dye T-shirts.
We received Federal approval to open a Trust department and moved headquarters to the current building on Donnelly Street.
1920s
The 70s brought the debut of ESPN, The Godfather, and Star Wars. Jaws became the first summer blockbuster movie.
We helped one donor set up the Mount Dora Community Trust with $10,000 and became the trustee. Today, the Trust is worth $28 million.

Reaganomics was born, the Berlin Wall crumbled, and the Internet and the Apple Macintosh computer debuted.
We opened additional branch offices in Sorrento and Tri-City to serve the growing Mount Dora area and began offering the first ATM cards.

The 90s are known for peace, prosperity, and the dot.com bubble, as well as iconic movies like Titanic and Forrest Gump and TV shows Friends and Seinfeld.
During the “Storm of the Century” when Mount Dora was without power for days, the bank remained open to help customers access funds to rebuild.

The turn of the century brought Google, YouTube, MySpace, Facebook, and smartphones. Denim became a fashion staple.
During the 2008 housing recession, we were able to modify loans to help keep as many customers in their homes as possible.

Technology explodes and social media becomes popular.
We formed FNBMD Bancshares, Inc., a bank holding company, with the goal of remaining a locally owned, independent bank.

With the COVID-19 pandemic came two rounds of the Paycheck Protection Program. We were able to help hundreds of customers receive forgivable loans to keep their doors open.
